Ever since I watched The True Cost film, I've become so interested in all aspects of the journey of our clothing. The Green Carpet Challenge which was founded by Livia Firth. (P.s if you haven't watched the True Cost yet, go do it asap, you'll thank me later, mostly aimed at all you fairies who worship Pennys/Primark) The GCC started in 2009 & was also started by Ms. Firth, when she found herself wanting to make a conscious effort to support sustainability in fashion. The whole idea of the concept is to wear things more than once #30wears. So garments can be reworked to keep up with current fashion trends. it's not just Ms. Firth which is getting upon this bandwagon but she is raising & spreading the awareness, because it really is such a crazy thing which is happening all round us.

Topical actress and star of Beauty & the Beast, Emma Watson is currently accepting the challenge. dawning many beautiful gowns on the hottest red carpets & even some of the costumes from the lately released film.

Other stars include Margot Robbie & Kiera Knightly. Livia Firth has hosted many events to raise awareness for the cost at the likes of London Fashion Week and other award ceremonies.

I'm not saying that you have to be one of the hottest movie stars & have the money to be spending money on fabulous vintage gowns, but theres so many other options. For instance, have you ever had a piece of clothing which you absolutely adore, but you've worn so many times, or a pattern on a dress that you'd maybe like to wear a bit differently? Well yes of course you have, cause us girls find it way to hard to say goodbye to precious garms that treated us so well for many years. Well handing your arm in at your local charity shop doesn't exactly mean its the last good bye, and yes charity shops are an excellent organisation. But theres shops like The Zipyard

which can completely transform your favourite looks, or even how about shopping completely vintage or picking something up in the charity shop & having it transformed.

Top Irish stylist, Courtney Smith is the one who actually drew my attention to The Zipyard.

The image on the left of the collage is the original dress from when Courtney picked up the dress in a vintage shop, and the picture to the right is the finished product after she handed the garm into The Zipyard. Totally transformed.

So when your at the checkout buying your text top, dress, trousers or whatever you may be buying for £10 in Primark/Pennys think about how many times your actually going to get to wear it, or how good the quality of material is? Could it perhaps be transformed into something else? The reality is 100% not. Pennys/Primark material really doesn't last, so why not think in investing in some worthy pieces or even converting to vintage.

Have the whole aspect of 30 wears in your head, really ask yourself whether or not you will wear something 30 times or just three times, because then is it absolutely worth it?

Much love,

G x
